On 12 January, Astra Youth, consisting of a group of young SRHR activists from the CEE region and Balkan countries held hearing at the European Parliament to launch their report Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Adolescents in Central and Eastern Europe and Balkan countries. The hearing was opened by MEP, Sophie in ‘t Veld and lead by young Astra Youth members, including YSAFE member Daniel Kalajdjeski. The young people presented sections of the report as well as the need for youth participation and interventions to strengthen young people’s SRHR, which as an example, can be seen in the IPPF EN EC funded project, SAFE II. The report outlines the SRHR situation adolescents, challenges, and legislation in 5 areas: sexuality education, STIs/HIV, abortion, contraception, and youth health care. Astra Youth calls upon the attention of policy makers to the SRHR reality of adolescents.
