On 1 April, IPPF EN Regional Office staff took part in a "March for the right to abort in Europe" to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Belgium law decriminalising abortion.

The initiators of the Campaign and March for the right to abort in Europe are a platform of local civil society organisations such as IPPF Member Association from Belgium (Wallonia), FLCPF, but also member organisations of the European Women’s Lobby from Belgium, Poland, Cyprus, Ireland.

As part of the campaign, IPPF EN signed an open letter together with 150 organizations and politicians calling on the EU and governments of Cyprus, Malta, Poland and Ireland to ensure that all women fully enjoy their sexual and reproductive rights.

The march gathered some 500 people and passed through the embassies of Poland, Cyprus, Malta, Ireland. A delegation of representatives of the platform of NGOs met with representatives of the embassies of Poland and Ireland. The open letter with a final list of signatories will be sent to the 4 European States which do not recognize the right for women to abort and to the European Union.
