After three months of tireless efforts, IPPF Member Association of France, le Mouvement Français pour le Planning Familial (MFPF), succeeded in pushing the government to reveal its decision to reduce by 42% the State 2009 budget for couple and family counselling. This is the result of an intensive and proactive campaign undertaken by MFPF. Last January, The French Member Association launched an online petition in support of the right to information and education on sexuality for everyone. This resulted in 140.000 signatures. Besides the active support of several political parties, trade unions and NGOs, MFPF also gained the favour of 36 Members of Parliament. Many elected representatives from the regional and local authorities wrote letters to the government. A former minister on women’s rights met with the President of the Republic of France to make an appeal. MFPF’s campaign also got quite a lot of media attention resulting in more than 100 articles in the newspapers and 35 MFPF interviews on TV and radio.
