IPPF EN Announces New Regional President

The 1st of July marks the beginning of the Polish Presidency of the European Union. The next six months will see Poland become the public face of the EU as well as setting its direction. A deeply Catholic and conservative country, Poland’s restrictive interpretation of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) has been evident in numerous meetings and negotiations.

At the same time, the International Planned Parenthood Federation European Network is delighted to announce that Joanna Dec, volunteer with the Polish IPPF Member Association, Towarzystwo Rozwoju Rodziny (TRR), has been elected as our new Regional President. Joanna Dec has a PhD in Pedagogy with a special focus on sex workers in Poland and she is a university lecturer, teaching counselling, SRHR issues and sexology to pedagogy students.

 Joanna's mandate for the coming 3 years will highlight and support those organisations and individuals working passionately for SRHR in countries hostile to these issues.
