Petition for 'the right to choose' in Luxemburg

02/04/2010

IPPF Member Association in Luxemburg, MLPFES has launched together with other NGOs a Platform and Petition "Si je veux ("It's my choice!") – for the self-determination of women" opposing the government's recent proposal to tighten restrictions on abortion.

The platform made up of 40 individuals from various civil society organisations and political parties demands that any future perspectives of the abortion legislation in Luxemburg do not criminalize women who choose to have an abortion and that women's right to self-determination be respected.

This action follows last year's liberalization of abortion campaign « Si je veux! » (« It’s my choice! ») conducted by the MLPFES to mark the 30th anniversary of the 1978 law on sexual information, illegal abortion and termination of pregnancy.

Access to abortion is ‘restricted’ in Luxemburg as opposed to most other European countries where abortion on request is legal.
