Dear Colleagues,

We are in deep grief and sorrow for the recent China earthquakes. As you all know, China quake deaths estimated over 50,000 in Sichuan alone, 22,069 deaths confirmed and 4.3 million homes have been destroyed till May 15 after the earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, jolted southwestern China's Sichuan Province. These tragic figures include our fellow staff members, friends and colleagues from the quake localities, whom we still do not have the clear statistics of as the rescue operation is still proceeding. All of us are deeply saddened.

As the gap to address the demands on capacity and resources for food, water, medical supplies, and other basic needs is huge, the need for urgent actions to support the humanitarian response is multiplying. Although China Family Planning Association (CFPA) has urgently allocated a van to the Family Planning Association in Aba, Sichuan in supporting their relief activities and organized staff members for donations, regretfully we found us seriously challenged capacity in offering further help when we received solicitation this afternoon from our branch office in Sichuan for disinfectants for air, human body and environment, which are crucial in fighting the worsening of the diseaster. To address the pressing humanitarian needs of the affected population caught in the devastation, CFPA would like to appeal to you all, our international friends, to join forces in soliciting financial donations.
