The Family Planning Association of Cyprus (FPAC) runs a family planning clinic in Nicosia, providing a range of services, including AIDS/HIV testing.
The clinical services are offered at the Nicosia clinic with the help of 12 volunteer gynaecologists. One hundred and thirty volunteers in the FPAC Youth Project do peer group advice work and run a Saturday telephone helpline.
An FPA youth exchange project with the Swedish family planning association, Riksförbundet för sexuell upplysning, brought young people together to plan a two-day `Love Tent' event. The event, supported by leaflets on contraception, a Tshirt and other material, generated a `love diary' containing information for young people on sexual and reproductive health.
We advocate de-restriction of the abortion law.
We run workshops on sex education and sexuality awareness for young people, mainly college and high school students.
Lectures were given to women at the maternity wards of the state hospital, and we continue to provide antenatal classes. This project offered the FPA of Cyprus the opportunity to co-operate with government services.
The Special Groups Enlightenment project provided family planning issues awareness to 90 police cadets. Two workshops were addressed to rural women, and educational activities were organized for the citizens of Limassol, a trade union's youth camp and for a group of Girl Guides.
Our advocacy project has initiated networking with other related bodies in order to join forces for the support of the decriminalization of homosexuality. As a result, a joint public announcement was sent to electronic and print media, as well as to all Members of Parliament.
Contacts and visits with government representatives took place for the promotion of our work and an increase in the government's financial contribution.
