Väestöliitto - The Family Federation of Finland, is an umbrella organization for organizations in the field of health and social affairs in relation to population and family policy issues.

In addition to our counselling and reproductive health clinics, and child-care service, the FPA conducts research on a range of population and family welfare issues.

We co-operate with the Mexican FPA in a sex education programme for young people, and are piloting a contraceptive social marketing project in Vietnam, and a project to integrate sexual health in primary health care in Malawi.

The FPA collaborates closely with the FPAs of Estonia and Latvia in training teachers for sex education in schools.

The FPA lobbies parliament to increase international aid for population and reproductive health programmes. We regularly organise national and international conferences on aspects of family and population policy.

There is a well-developed condom sales scheme via the Slot Machine Association.

The FPA publishes materials and runs school `Responsible Love' campaigns on sex education and human relationships, family and population policy. We produce:

  • fact cards on population issues and sexual and reproductive health rights a health care magazine
  • a socio-political journal

The Association offers sex education services. The open House Youth Counselling Service which is free to young people, offers personal and telephone counselling on topics such as sexuality, contraception, and dating. On request, staff will provide sex education in schools.
