Member Association: Greece

The Family Planning Association of Greece (FPAG) focus on information and education, especially for those working with young people, and advocacy through a regular newsletter which is circulated to opinion-leaders.

Sex education in schools helps prevent unwanted pregnancies, but it still doesn't exist in the educational curriculum, except as a special programme. We encourage parents to be informed about sex education and behaviour in relation to their children and teachers.

The Greek Family Planning Association (FPA) has been actively involved in supporting the Greek government's Family Planning and Reproductive Health Policy.

We work to ensure that contraceptive choice is not restricted in any way and that it is a policy that family planning provision is free.

Sexual health and education programmes are one of the main focuses of GFPA with an active interest in the question of abortion.

We joined women's organizations, other non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local authorities and politicians to lobby for safe abortion.

GFPA provides information and education activities including helping to shape public opinion through campaigns and lectures, conferences and booklets, books and information materials.

The GFPA has collaborated with:

  • the Ministry of Education
  • the Technological Educational Institute of Athens
  • National Hospitals
  • High Schools
  • other agencies

creating a network of research, studies, projects and specific programmes.

The GFPA reinforces its actions supporting women through specific projects, exchange programmes, research work and studies. The GFPA Women's Group is represented at the European Women's Lobby with two representatives on the board.

We have established a youth group in order to increase the accessibility of information to young people.
