Family Planning Australia is a federation of autonomous state Family Planning Associations, with a national voice on family planning representing eight state and territory member organizations.
We provide a full range of clinical and educational services and co-operate with other organizations on issues of mutual concern. We lobby the government on a wide range of national and international issues.
The School of Distance Education in Cairns, Queensland and Family Planning Queensland have come up with an innovative way of providing sexuality education to children in isolated rural communities in the State.
The programme, "Oh No, Not on the Air" aims to provide 226 home tutors (who are mostly mothers) with relevant skills and knowledge required for educating young children on sexuality. The idea for the project came about because sexuality education programmes were not considered appropriate for broadcast. Instead it relies on parents and care givers, who are the primary educators of children, to provide information.
