Planned Parenthood Federation of Canada (PPFC) played a key role in the fight to legalise family planning in Canada and has remained a champion of reproductive rights, as well as raising money for international family planning work.
PPFC was founded in 1964 as a federation of 51 affiliated family planning associations operating in nine provinces.
Our affliates provide direct services to Canadians across the nation and northward into the Canadian Arctic.
The national office focuses on education and advocacy.
We support projects in the developing world, often in collaboration with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
We fund projects such as family planning centres in poor areas and youth programmes.
Our mission is to create awareness and support among policy makers and the general public regarding sexual health needs and family planning issues.
We work to ensure that all Canadians have access to universal, reliable information and services in order to make informed decisions related to their sexual and reproductive health and behaviour.
The health and well-being of women and their families are determined by a complex set of factors, including their economic, social and physical environment, biological factors, and health behaviours.
Sexual and reproductive health is no less dependant on these factors. People continue to live in poverty; sexual, physical and psychological abuse are common occurrences.
