Asociación Chilena de Protección de la Familia (APROFA), founded in 1962,  was the first family planning organization in Chile to focus on small programmes in under-served, impoverished areas. 

APROFA promotes responsible parenthood and was instrumental in helping the government with family planning services in the country. 

APROFA works with the Red Cross. We provide them with contraceptive services as well as diagnoses of cervical cancer.

In the last decade APROFA has put special emphasis on our training, information and education activities for teachers and students at all levels to promote sexual health education.

APROFA  has taken a different approach to  HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) work and has drawn men into various clinic activities.

In 1995 APROFA established a centre for young people in Santiago, in response to the unmet need for services for this age group.

The association is suffering from a lack of funds, but the clinics expect to recover costs by charging client fees and by obtaining supplies from the Red Cross.
