Project Manager: Strategic Communications Initiative Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania

Closing date

2-year fixed-term contract, starting January 2019.

IPPF European Network is seeking the right person to manage an exciting new strategic communications project in Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania. This two-year funded initiative will be an incubator to trial and test new communications methodologies to build support for family planning and sexual and reproductive health and rights in Africa. Working with IPPF Member Associations and other local stakeholders, you will support the development of strategic communications capacity, and accompany the design and implementation of research, narrative development and communications strategies and activities.

The right candidate for this job will be a flexible self-starter, comfortable working in ‘start-up’ mode and able to adjust to context and learn and adapt as you go. Within this ‘incubator’ context, however, you will need to structure and manage a coherent programme of work involving multiple stakeholders. You will therefore have considerable expertise of project management, ideally in Africa, including project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and narrative and financial reporting. You love inspiring others to learn and test out new concepts and ideas; practically you have lots of experience of designing and facilitating workshops and other methods of imparting knowledge, including digitally.

You will have proven ability to navigate political sensitivities and understand the challenges involved in working on sensitive topics, including an appreciation of confidentiality and due care in the handling of information.  Experience working in multi-cultural environments and excellent interpersonal and communication skills will be essential.

You will have a good conceptual and practical knowledge of communications and be a strong supporter of the role that communications can play in driving positive change.  Knowledge of implementing and applying consumer research would be a strong advantage, especially in an African context.

Send us your application letter with a detailed CV to by 6 November COB.

Location:  Brussels strongly preferred, other IPPF office locations considered. Candidates with permission to work in Belgium/EU preferred.
